Ashoka started to award social entrepreneurs even in 1980. Today, they connect fellows in more than 60 countries worldwide. Ashoka’s work is based on the vision, that everyone has the ability to react to social failures and to solve them. In 2007, Norbert Kunz (CEO of iq consult) has been awarded Ashoka Fellow. Since then, he has been playing an active role in the Ashoka network, collaborating with other fellows.
On a global scale, Ashoka is the most important supporter of social entrepreneurship. Ashoka, founded in 1980 by Bill Drayton (USA), identifies innovative concepts that tackle social problems in an early state of their development. By financial support, advice and the worldwide network, Ashoka enables the people behind those concepts to concentrate on scaling their ideas. This meets with the original meaning of the word Ashoka in the ancient Indian language: To actively get over grievances.
In cooperation with Ashoka, iq consult is currently developing a comprehensive qualification programme for upcoming social entrepreneurs. At the impakt berlin, the team of Ashoka Youth Venture and iq consult share co-working space. The discussion series “Social Innovation” is carried out by iq consult in cooperation with Ashoka, inviting fellows and other people being involved in social entrepreneurship to talk about their experiences.
